A Magical Guide to Fighting Fascism | Una guía mágica para luchar contra el fascismo | מדריך קסום ללחימה בפאשיזם
“I look out on the Indian ocean, wonder: was I ever supposed to be here?
Doesn’t feel like my feet fit here. No ancestors here.
¿Cómo llegué aquí? [How did I get here?]”
Three women, three time periods, three regimes: one family full of secrets.
Meet Javiera, a dreamer, as all teenagers should be.
Her parents came to Perth from Chile, or so she believes.
She hangs at the beach in 2003, wondering how she came to be.
Then there’s Mayim, a modern woman in a modern town.
In Edinburgh, Scotland, working sun up ‘til sun down.
Head of a trade union, but her life’s not in balance.
Too much time in the office ignoring the Sabbath.
Finally, there’s Cote, grounded and calm.
Being pulled between worlds has caused her great harm.
In 1970s Chile, tyranny is bubbling.
A new life in Scotland is calling, but the journey there will be troubling.
An epic musical journey which follows the three women as they uncover untold family truths. A fascinating story based on real events – the Chilean dictatorship, the Jewish diaspora in the UK, and the second generation Australian experience. Be transported magically between worlds as mysterious, tyrannical forces try to keep these women apart. Enter angry mermaids, wise trees, and messages travelling on the wind that whips the sand dunes. Expect music, humour, and a dash of history, as you are guided on a multicultural voyage to discover what happens to families when secrets are buried and memories are lost at sea.
