About the Event
“I’ve lived and breathed John Denver’s music for many years. I’m thrilled to be bringing these songs to life in the exact way that they inspired and impressed me when I first heard them in the seventies,” – Wayne Perry
This special show of John Denver favourites backed by string orchestra is a first for the Australian West Coast. Singer Wayne Perry and banjo legend Ian Simpson have worked with musical director and arranger Rachel John in a unique collaboration for this performance with the Classic Sounds Orchestra.
John Denver’s music personified the art of singer-songwriting in an era when popular songs connected with the common person, and artists utilised string instruments to lift music to poetic heights.
Wayne Perry is a versatile artist with an outstanding reputation for his performances of hits by the great songwriters of the 70’s. He was Festival Artist for the 2024 Armadale Arts Festival and performs with Bluegrass Parkway.
Ian Simpson has recorded with the likes of Keith Urban, Paul Kelly and Slim Dusty. He is a seven-times Golden Guitar winner, Aria award winner, and three-times National Banjo champion; and he continues to be at the centre of Australian music royalty, wowing audiences with his Banjo, Dobro, and Guitar prowess.
